ERMELINDA chair, 2010
Multiple colors, Fiberglass, 450mm x 92mm x 650mm
ERMELINDA chair is a fiberglass double surface resulting from a structural skinning adapted to the weight of the beholder: morphing the copy, translation and scale of a single closed profile encasing seat and back; generating simultaneously surface and vacuum.
ERMELINDA chair’s volume stresses the performative efficiency of the object, enhanced by the impact of the user as a form factor generator: extracting mass from the body adaptation to a seating surface, and the minimum support to balance its weight.
ERMELINDA chair’s complex surface curvature is developed in an iterative process, through the application of advanced digital design and manufacturing tools in a two phase fabrication: an initial prototype cut by a robotic hardware numerical machine and a final mould in fiber glass.
